Rescue Dogs for homing in Spain

Dogs in Spain needing rehoming

Fakira - is this the face of a dog that only the mother could love?
Fakira, although certainly is not the prettiest of dogs, she has a truly lovely nature despite the rough life she has endured. She is a Podenco bitch that has been spayed and is around 18 months old. See below for more about her plight and that of other dogs in Spain.

To bring Fakira or one of the other dogs or puppies into this country would cost just £300. Can you help?

Those of you that have holidayed in Spain would have seen the appalling amount of homeless animals that roam the streets. They are thrown onto the street to starve to death or to be hit by cars on the road and then left to roam with terrible injuries.

There are of course rescue centres in Spain but unfortunately homes are not as forthcoming as they are in England. Hence many of the dogs in these centres have been there waiting for new homes for many months, some for years. We are in contact with one of these centres in Spain and have decided to try and offer some assistance. Although the rescue is doing the best it can it is by no means up to the same standard as rescues in this country. It is being run by a German lady, the only funds being her pension which doesn't go far. Her own accommodation is very poor, all her funds go to the upkeep of the animals. The ground is just hard baked dirt, when it rains it turns into a mud bath. Shelter is just outside wooden kennels with no blankets. Many of the dogs are keep on chains no longer than 3 foot and have been like this for 2 years!

All of the following dogs are desperately looking for a new home: -

It is more than likely that this elderly bitch will not end her days in a warm home, curled up on someones bed.
The dog on the left of the photo had her ears cropped (this wasnt done by a vet). This Collie has been kept on a short chain for 2 years. Reserved

Nikolai, a 3 yr old Galgo X his only shelter is the flimsy wooden kennel that he is chained to. Another bitch being kept on a very short chain.
A Spanish Water Spaniel. Note the ground, poor quality fencing and junk in the run. Reserved

Scarlett,a greyhound bitch

A young Kooikerhondje bitchA five month old bitch puppy desperate for attention. Reserved
Biddy - an 8 year old bitch, loving, affectionate, but not good with smaller dogs.Toby is a great dane, greyhound, pointer cross aged 2 years 6 months.Cassie is a labrador cross with a very nice temperament.

Suleika is a galgof (type of greyhound) seen with her puppies. We have six galgof puppies (all bitches) that need homes.

To bring one of these dogs or puppies into this country it would cost just £300.

This includes all of the vaccinations, rabies etc, neutering and a pet passport. Have a look in your local newspaper tonight at the price puppies are selling for, many are selling for the same price if not more. How would you really like to spend your money?

FIRST SPANISH ARRIVALS!

Those of you who visit our site regularly will know that we have been trying to help solve the terrible plight of abandoned dogs in Spain. Via a sanctuary there we have been working hard to bring over some of those poor animals to find them homes here in the UK. Well, we've succeeded and the first new arrivals are now here!

Left: Arriving at Second Chance - Right: First walk

For the first time they have experienced a walk on grass and amongst trees - their tails haven't stopped wagging since they arrived. But now we need your help to home them, so take a look at our dogs section to see if you could help by offering them a place in your heart, as well as your home.

If you feel that you might be able to offer a home to one of these dogs or would like further information then please give us a call on 023 8055 9552.
